How to avoid noisy cruise cabins and what to do if you get one

The last thing you want to worry about on your cruise vacation is being kept up in the middle of the night or woken early in the morning from loud noises entering your cabin. Every cruise ship, no matter how luxurious, has hundreds of problem cabins above a nightclub, below the lido deck or beside noisy equipment that lets in a lot of noise. If you’re sensitive to loud noises like me, you want to avoid these cabins at all costs because with most ships sailing with every cabin occupied these days, it’s more difficult than ever to get moved. In this episode of the Chill Cruiser, I’ll show you how to avoid noisy cabins and what you can do if you end up getting one.

Cabin research resources

The forums on Cruise Critic are a great resource for detailed reviews of specific cabins. The folks in the Celebrity Cruises forum compile spreadsheet of all reviews organized by ship class.

You can also find detailed reviews for Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line , Virgin Voyages and Carnival. The reviews haven’t been compiled in a spreadsheet but you can search the thread for a cabin number. Unfortunately the forums for Disney or Holland America haven’t started collecting cabin reviews that I could find.

Cruise Deck Plans is a good site to find photos or videos of specific cabins but they don’t collect reviews overall or specific to noise. But you can see what cabins on each deck have a photo or video. They also make it easy to see cabin photos and vidoes for specific cabins on sister ships in case there isn’t one available for the specific cabin and ship you’re researching.
